Ultimate Summer Guide: 4 Travel Destinations in the U.S. and What to Wear

With the pandemic showing no signs of slowing down, many of us want to be as cautious as possible when it comes to making decisions about travel. As we head into the summer season, most of us are thinking about where we could go right now, whether it’s safe to travel just yet and other safety issues that may pop up at this time. There is so much uncertainty around travel, especially in regards to getting on a plane and heading somewhere new and because of this, staycations have started to become more and more popular as a means of ‘getting away’ and enjoying some well-deserved time off.

While we might not be ready to travel to a new country just yet, we could be pleasantly surprised by what our own cities have to offer us when it comes to exploring a new place as a safe and socially distant option for a getaway.

We’re excited to share that we’ve teamed up with Wild Bum to put together the ultimate summer staycation guide of where to go and some bonus tips of what to rent from Trvl Porter including what to pack for your trip. Wild Bum uses real travelers as ‘guide architects’ who put together curated travel guides of the best-reviewed places, hidden gems, local favorites and hot spots to help you build your travel itinerary.

PACKING TIPS

• Summer floral dresses or rompers paired with a sun hat for breezy walks through vineyards. Keep in mind darker colors for wine tasting… because wine.

• Versatile footwear that is both stylish and comfortable is imperative, but necessary to tromp through vineyards or hold their grip in a wet, slippery winery.

• Pack layers, our favorite during summer is a lightweight scarf that you can carry in your purse. It can double as a blanket to sit on outdoors during the day or as a wrap to stay warm when temperatures drop at night.

• Staying hydrated is key while wine tasting. We recommend carrying a portable water bottle and adding a packet of electrolytes like Hydrant to help boost your hydration and prevent any side effects from too much wine consumption… which can happen to the best of us!

Don’t be shy to add a pop of color to your style with a Fame and Partners’ trendy romper or a Derek Lam 10 Crosby floral dress paired with a pair of white sneakers or nude flats. If you’re feeling like wearing jeans, style your denim pair with a nude and white Bailey 44 blouse and a comfortable pair of shoes for walking and wine tasting. Don’t forget to bring a cardigan to protect yourself from the California breeze. We recommend a neutral and soft piece from Cupcakes and Cashmere.

PACKING TIPS

• Pack layers no matter what season. The sun will feel warm due to the higher elevations and the days will vary in temperature.

• Colorado gets 300+ days of sunshine — make sure to pack it! Layer on sunscreen (during the winter, too!) and don’t forget your sunglasses.

• If you’re doing anything outdoorsy (skiing, hiking, mountain biking, etc.), you may want to bring a camera or GoPro.

• Water bottles are another great item to carry with you. Staying hydrated is key to preventing elevation sickness.

Trvl-Porter-Brekenridge-Colorado-What-to-Wear

Stay comfortable and stylish while hiking in a French Connection denim jacket with army print sleeves paired with a flannel from Nicole Miller Artelier. Along with shorts, pack a pair of grey Anatomie pants you’ll want to stay warm in that will also go with your hiking boots or sneakers. For downtime and when you’re exploring more of the city, pack a nude LACAUSA jacket that can be paired with any color or outfit, making it the perfect accessory to have on hand at all times.

We encourage all of you to stay safe and practice social distancing when venturing outside and exploring. As a gentle reminder, don’t forget your SPF, mask and plenty of hand sanitizer!
